Jade Nixon is a first generation Afro-Indo Caribbean Carnival lover, dreamer, and believer in that a more livable world is possible.

Dissertation

Title: Soca At Sea: Crossing, Movement, and Joy on the Black Atlantic (preliminary title)

Supervisor: Eve Tuck & Nicole Charles

My dissertation project is attentive to how the ship is both a site where Black people are not imagined to be living, and extends this inquiry taking into consideration the ways that UberSoca Cruise becomes a space where Black people experience “four days of friends, fun, sun, and non-stop soca music.” (UberSoca Cruise, 2018).
