Ceta Ramkhalawansingh is a YWCA Woman of Distinction

Ceta (New ’74) has been awarded the Award for Public Service and Social Justice, one of seven women honoured by YWCA Toronto as Women of Distinction. The awards will be presented at a special ceremony on Thursday, May 18, 2017.  Some brief notes on Ceta are below, but visit the YWCA website for her full nomination biography.  We are enormously proud of Ceta’s achievements and this latest accolade is further proof of her energy, activism and dedication – congratulations!
A co-founder of Women’s Studies at the University of Toronto, in 2002 she was made an Honorary Member of the Women & Gender Studies Institute in recognition of that achievement. She received her MA from OISE in 1980, and pursued a career at Toronto City Hall from 1981 until her retirement in 2010 at which time she was the manager of Diversity Management and Community Engagement. Not one to stand still, in 2014 Ceta worked as interim councillor of Ward 20 (Trinity and Spadina), where which she has lived for over 40 years. This YWCA award  complements the Constance E. Hamilton Award she received in 2012 from Toronto City Council for her work on women’s issues.
