The WGSI would like to congratulate MA student Stephanie Sawah on being the recipient of the 2024-2025 Margrit Eichler Award.
This award recognizes overall achievement in graduate student leadership during the academic year. Professor Margrit Eichler was the first Director of the Women & Gender Studies Institute, which was founded in 1999.
Stephanie has demonstrated astonishing leadership over the past year. Her initiative to build community among her peers this year has been exemplary. Stephanie established a working group to help students apply to PhD programs, organized a writing group to support MA students and wrote a heartwarming article to celebrate Chris Johnson’s pedagogy.
In Stephanie’s words: “It is a tremendous honour to receive the Margrit Eichler Student Leadership Award. I am thankful to the WGSI faculty and my supervisors, Dr. R. Cassandra Lord and Dr. Rinaldo Walcott, for letting me do what I know best — bringing folks together to undertake what Audre Lorde calls “the work” of transforming silence and loneliness into care and community.”
Congratulations again, Stephanie!
