2024 marks the 40th anniversary of Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN), feminist scholars, researchers and activists who formed a network that centred women living in the Global South. DAWN turned the geographical axis of feminism on its head and insisted on centring questions and perspectives derived from poor women living in the Global South. DAWN’s earliest vocabularies also anticipated the climate crisis we now face. In short, these women offered a holistic approach that simply refused to be domesticated in its feminist reach.
