M.A. Program

M.A. students must complete a total of 3.5 full-course equivalents (FCE) and maintain attendance at the WGS Research Seminars:

1.0 FCEElectives (one year-long or two half-year courses) offered by other departments and chosen in consultation with your faculty advisor. Fall and/or Winter
1.0 FCEWGS1005Y MA Research Paper
– Proposal due in January 2021
– MRP due in August 2021

Ph.D. Program

Ph.D. Students Admitted with an Master’s Degree

Year 1:            Completion of coursework

Year 2:           Completion of comprehensive exams; submission and approval of dissertation proposal

Year 3:           Doctoral research

Year 4:           Doctoral research; Submission and oral defense of completed dissertation

Direct-Entry Ph.D. Students

Year 1:           Completion of 3.0 FCES of coursework

Year 2:           Completion of 2.0 FCEs of coursework; completion of at least one comprehensive exam

Year 3:           Completion of 2nd comprehensive exam; submission and approval of dissertation proposal

Year 4:           Doctoral research

Year 5:           Doctoral research; Submission and oral defense of completed dissertation
