Sam Yoon to Join The School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Grand Valley State University

Recent WGSI graduate Dr. Sam Yoon will begin a position as an Assistant Professor in The School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Grand Valley State University this upcoming Fall. Sam, who recently defended his thesis: Cruelty Counts: Anti-Asian Violence and its Queer Afterlives; will primarily be teaching in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program.

In Sam’s own words: “Starting this next chapter still does not feel real as this past year was such a whirlwind. In the first couple weeks of preparing for the academic job market someone had told me that it is brave to put yourself on the market. I did not really understand what that meant until a few months in when I very quickly ran into some low moments. This past year came with many surprises, and in the words of Eve Sedgwick, some terrible ones but also some good ones. When I look back on this year, I now know that it is only possible to be brave because of the people by your side. I must thank my supervisor, letter writers, faculty members across U of T and beyond, and grad students but also my friends, family, and my partner for all the support and care this past year. “

Congratulations, Sam!
