Join the Women and Gender Studies Institute; New College; African Studies; and Caribbean Studies for the launch of Mary Nyquist’s book Wet Toes.
A former faculty member and director of WGSI, Mary Nyquist has participated in both Caribbean and African Studies. She is an award-winning scholar of early modern literature, Euro-colonialism, and Atlantic slavery. Though her poems have appeared in a number of Canadian collections and literary journals, Wet Toes is her first book.
“These poems are gifts that return us to ourselves by their grace, beauty and intelligence… Located in the wreckage wrought by the rapacity of global expropriation and exploitation, the author engages the legacies of capitalism and slavery while holding “death” at bay with a “not yet.”” – Himani Bannerji
