Prof. Nyquist has been elected Honored Scholar of the Milton Society of America for 2012. This is the the lifetime achievement award of the Milton Society. While her 1987 collection of essays Re-Membering Milton (co-edited with Margaret Ferguson) was centrally concerned with the great poet and has become a classic in Milton studies, her new monograph Arbitrary Rule focuses on Buchanan, Hobbes, and Locke, on slavery, tyranny and the kind of sovereignty that comprises “the power of life and death.”
